Markets, Waterfalls, an Old Growth Forest and the Beach
What better way to spend the day. Start your trip off with a easy hike around Englishman River Falls. Then head over to the Farmer’s Market each Saturday morning in Errington; or to Coombs and the Goats on the Roof market open daily. Fresh fruit, great bakery and the best tasting ice cream and gelato. Oh, and you can’t miss the goats on the roof…literally! Other activities are the Parrot Refuge, Butterfly Farm, Wildlife Recovery Centre or the local artisan shops. Then its westward bound – another set of waterfalls, a far different experience, Little Qualicum Falls. Next stop the most majestic old growth forest – Cathedral Grove (McMillan Provincial Park) home of the mighty Douglas Fir. Then if you like, pop into Port Alberni… where the Alberni Pacific "Steam" Railway and the Port Alberni Quay welcome you.
Now it’s homeward bound – stop in at Qualicum Beach. The town is quaint with many unique shops and the crescent shaped beach is great to beachcomb. Qualicum also is home to Milner Gardens; a great place for tea and scones! Grab dinner on your way home as there are great restaurants all the way back home to the Pepper Muffin Country Inn or let us suggest a dining gem here in Nanaimo.
