This unique island located in the Gulf Island chain is increasingly recognized internationally for its charming communities, the local artist scene and its overall ambiance and quality of life. Events like the Salt Spring Apple Festival are a hit with locals and tourists alike.
If you wish to explore Salt Spring we suggest that you take the self guided Salt Spring Studio Tour.
Catch the ferry from Crofton to Vesuvius and make your way to Ruckle Park at the far southern tip of the island. Start with Salt Spring Bread and Laughing Daughters Bakery and then take your treats to the cheese factories and have lunch! Then visit the Lavender Farm and work your way north, back to the ferry stopping at local artisan studios along the way. It is a fantastic way to spend a day. Catch the ferry back to the main island and stop in at Crow and Gate Pub for dinner.
If you are lucky enough to hit Salt Spring on a Saturday, take in the Salt Spring Island's Saturday Market held each Saturday, from April 3, 2010 through the last Saturday in October. From about 8am - 4pm, rain or shine. It is held in Oceanside at Centennial Park in the heart of Ganges. This market is known for internationally acclaimed arts and crafts from Canada's "Island of the Arts". For potters, jewellers, fibre artists, woodworkers and fine decorative arts. For farmstead cheeses, organic foods, music, and free festive fun.
